What's Inside:
Module 1: Introduction To Your Tools
First I’ll give you a checklist of everything you’ll need to get started. Including my selection of the best clippers, brushes, shampoo, conditioner, and grooming tables (and where you can save money.)
I’ll then introduce you to each tool and how to use them for safety and efficiency.
Module 2: Dog Anatomy and Pre-Assessment
An experienced groomer makes it look easy. They seem glide through the coat at incredible speed. But what you don’t see is the deep understanding of each body part as it applies to grooming.
You’ll learn how to recognize individual parts to fully understand which are prone to injury, how the coat behaves, and how to apply specific grooming techniques.
We’ll go over the Pre-Assessment Health Checklist to analyze their breed, coat, temperament, and overall health to ensure we can achieve the best groom possible.
Module 3: Matting and Tangles
Module 4: Bathing and Drying
Ever wonder if you should bathe your dog before or after clipping? What about coats with heavy matting? And what’s the best shampoo and conditioner for your specific breed? We hammer away at these common questions.
Then I’ll walk you through my simple bathing/drying system I’ve used on thousands of dogs in my shop to get them ultra-clean and ready for grooming.
Module 5: Using Your Clippers
First I’ll explain all the different blade lengths, and give you my personal cheat sheet for which blades to use (and where).
Next, I’ll show you exactly how to use clippers on the body, face, and sensitive spots. You’ll watch over my shoulder as I explain the different techniques.
Finally I’ll explain how groomers use clippers all day without their blades getting too hot.
Module 6: Basic Hand Scissoring
We’ll go over when and where we hand scissor. I’ll show you how to practice at home (without a dog) to ensure you have the correct posture, technique, and grip.
Then you can watch over my shoulder as I scissor various parts of my dogs while I explain what techniques are being used.
Module 7: Nail Trimming and Finishing Touches
Finally, we go over nail trimming (and why we do this last). I’ll show you which nail clippers and grinders work best, and how to use them on small and large breeds.
Then we talk about finishing touches, and making sure your groom looks perfect.
Bonus Video: A Groom From Start To Finish
Watch my entire grooming process – from the Pre-Assessment all the way to the Finishing Touches. We’ll take everything we’ve learned so far and apply it here.
Bonus Resources
I’ll include a list of my favorite books, videos, and guides I’ve used to improve over the years. And another bonus video: My guide on taking care of your clippers, blades, and shears so they last.

FAQ
Absolutely. In 2020/21, being faced with incredibly difficult times, it’s a great time to take advantage of online learning.
We filled this course to the brim with valuable information. Including close-up shots, annotations, cheat sheets, and guides to help you get the most out of the lessons.
We believe this will give you an excellent foundation – but practice makes perfect. That’s why we opened up a private Facebook group where you can ask our expert groomers and your fellow students for personalized feedback on your grooms.
Not at all. Katlin takes you step by step from absolute beginner. We introduce all the grooming tools you’ll be using, how to use them, safety measures, and how to practice techniques.
To get started with grooming you’ll need a few essential tools.
For example: shears, clippers & blades, brushes, a grooming table, and some safety/medical supplies, along with a few other items.
Think of these as a valuable investment for your career. We cover the full list of items needed to get started, and explain where you can save money.
I’ve groomed in closet spaces and tiny trailers. You can absolutely use what limited space you have available, and just use your own bathroom tub or kitchen sink (for small breeds).
Of course, bigger dogs require a bigger space. If you’re limited in space then consider only grooming dogs to a maximum weight of 35 pounds.
Ideally you want enough room for a grooming table, an accessible shelf space for your tools, and good lighting.
We offer a 30-day money back guarantee. If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, email us within 30 days of your purchase and we’ll issue a full refund.
Send us an email and any questions you might have – we’ll be happy to answer anything support@primpawsgroomingacademy.com
